Giving Out Books by the Thousands in Chicago
"Thanks for getting these books into the hands of our students!"
That's what all of us at Reader to Reader love to hear! It means we are doing our job.
This winter we have been doing that job in Chicago. Over 1,400 teachers were in attendance at the Ready, Set, Teach event at McCormick Place, as we gave out 40,672 new children's and young adult books for children and teens that attend the Chicago Public schools.
The donation was the start of our major new initiative focusing on inner-city schools in Chicago.
"Thank you for thinking of our students and teachers at Chicago Public Schools," Shannon Babcock, Executive Director of External Affairs and Partnerships at Chicago Public Schools, said.
A very big thank you to #scholasticbookfairs, #TumblehomeLearn for their generous donations.
And thank you to Marmon Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., for their sponsorship of this donation.
